EVENT: First Saturdays at Brockdale Park
WHEN: Saturday, August 7th, 10:00 am to 4 pm
WHERE: BPRC at Brockdale Park at Lake Lavon in Lucas.
COST: Adults: $3, Children 3-12: $1.50, Under 3 is Free.
DIRECTIONS: Brockdale Park - cross streets: Lucas Road (FM 3286) & Brockdale Park Road. Take U.S. 75 to Allen, exit Bethany Road. Go east 6.1 miles (Bethany becomes Lucas Road). At light go east on FM 3286 approximately 0.6 miles. Turn on to Brockdale Park Road and go approximately 1 mile. BPRC is on the left.
Bring your picnics and enjoy raptor programs with our hawks, owls and falcons. Walk the Native Plant Demonstration Trail and see what plants survive the Texas environment.
Come enjoy the outdoors and meet our raptor ambassadors.
At this time the park is only open to the public during these First Saturday events. |

Rods n’ Raptors Fishing Derby
A big success!
Everyone who came out July 12th had a great time and caught some fish!
Here are the winners for our fishing categories:
Biggest fish age 6-8: Jack Evans - 1lb 12 oz
Biggest fish age 9–12: Jeremy Darr - 3 lbs
Biggest fish age 13–16: Emily Archer - 5 oz
Most fish caught: Holly Darr - 7 fish!
Biggest fish of the day: John Archer - 3lb 2 oz
BPRC would like to thank Dallas Flyfishers for all their help with the day. Also, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Academy Sports and Target were supporters of the event. |

Texas Master Naturalist Class
BPRC recently spoke at the Blackland Prairie Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists. Erich Neupert and Nikki Levebvre introduced raptors at an ornithology class taught by Erich.
The class is one in a series for people interested in becoming Master Naturalists.

Prairie and Timbers
Audubon Society
BPRC compare raptors for Prairie and Timbers Audubon Society. Pam Dancaster and Erich Neupert compared a number of raptor species. Through male vs. female, wild vs. imprint and a number of other comparisons, participants enjoyed close-up views of these raptors.
The photo at left showed the comparison of male vs. female Red-tailed Hawks.
