Blackland Prairie Raptor Center’s birds of prey have many years of experience introducing children and adults to the world of raptors. These hawks, owls, and falcons are well trained, and with the assistance of BPRC education specialists, show you what makes them an important part of our environment. We also have owl pellets for sale!
You Come to Us at BPRC
Join us at BPRC for a great day of education in a natural setting with Lavon Lake as our backdrop. We have a park with pavilions, an amphitheater, restrooms, and trails. We can offer raptor presentations as well as guided hikes through native Blackland Prairie. The prairie hikes take you through a remnant prairie considered an endangered ecosystem with plants unique to this habitat. We are able to accommodate up to 200 for our on-site programs.
Live Raptor Program
The educational program introduces children and adults to the world of raptors. These hawks, owls and falcons are well trained, and with the assistance of BPRC education specialists, show you what makes them an important part of our environment. You will discover their roles in the food chain and their unique adaptations to hunt in woodland, wetlands and prairies. There’s no better way to learn about the birds of prey in North Texas than to meet them in person!

Field Trip Event
Join us at BPRC for a great day of education. This event includes a raptor presentation, guided trail hike through the native Blackland Prairie, and age appropriate educational activities.

Knee High Naturalists
Our Knee High Naturalist program focuses on one species of raptor. This event will consist of meeting a live raptor, reading a story, and then going on a short prairie walk to see what plants and animals we can find!

Night Hike & Raptor Program
Join us for a guided trail walk through BPRC, where everything looks different at sunset.

Painting with Petunia
Are you ready to embark on a unique and unconventional artistic journey? Picture this: a canvas, vibrant paints, and an unexpected partner in creativity – a magnificent black vulture.

- 1 hour painting session with our black vulture ambassador, Petunia

- a behind the scene tour of our education ambassador area
- paint color selection

Behind the Scenes Tour of BPRC
Ever wondered what the day-to-day looks like at the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center? This is your opportunity to tour the “behind the scenes” area to learn more about what we do on a daily basis. As an added bonus, you will have the opportunity to meet our full crew of raptor ambassadors!

Raptor Photo Shoot
Have a group of photographers that are nature enthusiasts? Schedule a photo shoot with BPRC as a group event! We will have multiple raptors available for you to photograph.
Information:
- Includes: 2 hours with birds
- Raptors will be either “on hand” or tethered and perched
- Get as close at 6’ from the raptors
- Can use tripods or monopods
- Minimum # required: 10
- Price = $300
- Option to add additional hours of park use (NO birds will be present) for $50/hr
We Come to You Programs
The presentations, approximately 45 minutes long are at your location and are available to all schools, homeschool groups, youth organizations, libraries, scouts and much more. Each year we present to more than 30,000 people. We travel all over North Texas and Oklahoma. Group size can range from a few to a classroom to a whole school. For schools, we recommend no more than 150 at a time and can do back-to-back programs as requested.

Wanting to do a live raptor program for younger kiddos? Our Tiny Tike Program is the perfect solution! We will bring one bird, discuss related raptor adaptations, and then finish up with a story book, all within a timeframe that works best for little ones!

Raptors of North Texas Presentation
Ever wondered what type of raptors are flying through our North Texas skies? This is the presentation for YOU! We will review the most common raptors that are native to the area and make sure to allow time to answer questions from the audience.

Education & Marketing Booth
Our education and marketing team is happy to host a BPRC booth at your event! We will bring information about our center and awesome biofacts (wings and talons) to share with your guests to help educate them on the incredible raptors that are native to this area.

Virtual Raptor Program

Owl Pellets
- Pellets are the undigested parts of a bird’s food, such as hair or bones, which are regurgitated (coughed up through the beak)
- Kids can study them to learn more about the owl and the ecosystems in which they live
- During the dissection, they can see and identify the tiny bones from that owl’s meal, can learn about the owl’s diet and place in the food web
- Available seasonally
- Price = $4/pellet
