Owl Pellet

Exploration Activity

  • Pellets are the undigested parts of a bird’s food, such as hair or bones, which are regurgitated (coughed up through the beak)
  • Kids can study them to learn more about the owl and the ecosystem in which they live
  • During the dissection, they can see and identify the tiny bones from that owl’s meal, can learn about the owl’s diet, and place in the food web
  • Includes owl pellet, bone dissection guide, toothpick, and plastic tweezers
